5 Tips for Managing Holiday Stress

Understand you can’t do it all. There are many holiday traditions that we love. Decorating, gift exchanges, parties, and exchanging Christmas cards are just a few. Stress often comes from the feeling of not being able to do everything. Take a hard look at your holiday activities and pare back to the ones that bring you the most joy.

Cooking for a large crew. Let go of the idea that every family meal requires you to cook every dish from scratch yourself. Spread the work by going potluck for a large, formal dinner. For a more casual family gathering, outside food prep by buying prepared foods like veggie and sandwich trays.

Beat back the holiday blues. If you feel like the holidays have become routine and lost their shimmer, try something new. Volunteer at a local shelter or at a food pantry to spread holiday joy to others who need it, and you will find joy of your own.
