Overview of Headaches
While an occasional headache is a temporary aggravation, headaches and migraines can totally disrupt a patient’s life. The goal of chiropractic treatment is using natural therapies without medication to bring relief to sufferers. Typical headache causes include:
- Stress and anxiety
- Fatigue
- Misaligned vertebrae
- Weather
- Hypertension
- Tumors
- Hormonal changes
- Food triggers
The most common types of headaches we see in our practice are sinus headaches, tension headaches, and headaches caused by a spinal misalignment. Chiropractors consider a migraine a special kind of headache. Migraine pain develops after stimulation of your trigeminal nerve. This large nerve governs facial sensation and motor activities such as chewing and biting.
When stimulation occurs, patients experience irritation as well as swelling in certain blood vessels on the brain’s surface. This results in pain surrounding the eyes, sinuses, jaw, temples, neck, or face. Poor spinal alignment is one of the greatest contributors to migraine development, particularly if it involves bones in your upper back and neck.
